According to the research I've done, our 6th great-grandfather, a man named Thomas Elliot was born in County Fermanagh, Ireland in 1710.

He married a lady named Mary Johnston in Ireland, and they came to America at some point, because their daughter Margaret Burd Elliot (our 5th great-grandmother) was born in Baltimore in 1745. (She later moved to Pennsylvania, which is where the family ultimately stayed for many generations). Their great-granddaughter was Elizabeth Locke, the unfortunate wife of Richard Madden (he killed her, then he killed himself on the same day). Those were Amelia Madden's parents--she was Grandma's grandmother. Got that? This is all through Grandma's mom's (Martha Mathews) side.
