I found this clipping and thought it might be fun to share:
It's interesting that this was right after the period when Esther Williams made "water ballet" popular, long before the era of synchronized swimming. (Esther Williams just died a few weeks ago at the age of 91).
The caption reads "caught underwater at a practice session were these YWCA girls, who will present a water ballet in the pool at the Homer Williams home, 913 W. Meadows Pl."
Mom is in the back row, far right. Next to her in the back row is Cathie McConnell (Wilton).

Cool! Why did she never swim more, like when we were at Uncle Lou's by ourselves?
She did some. I remember her getting a bathing suit in those years and coming in the pool every once in a while. She used to try to teach me how to tread water and showed me how they maneuvered around underwater when she was in water ballet. She also taught me how to do the backstroke.
It's kind of like now . . I love to swim but rarely get in a pool. Just don't want to mess up my hair for the day! Also, it's nice to just sit and relax while the dad spends time with the kids.
